SUBJECT OF THE TALK: YELLOW LEG HORNET (FORMERLY ASIAN HORNET) & TROPILAELAPS
Recounting a brief history to date and their biology, management and outlook, Jack will bring his experience working for the National Bee Unit tracking and eradicating incursions of Yellow Leg Hornets. Exemplified by Kent Beekeeping Association, identification and surveillance are the cornerstone of the public response, with useful tips for any trapping efforts, and the best routes to take if suspicions arise.

Colloquially known as varroa 2.0, Tropilaelaps is another exotic pest on the horizon with detection in the Balkans. Fieldwork undertaken by the NBU and FERA to understanding the threats posed by Tropilaelaps, and just how tricky it might prove to detect in time.”
